Fresh appeal to Bath businesses as cancer charity celebrates reaching £5m milestone

A Bath charity has praised businesses across the city for their “amazing” efforts to help it raise an impressive £5m.

Bath Cancer Unit Support Group (BCUSG) has reached the milestone having raised funds for the cancer unit at the Royal United Hospital (RUH) since 1985.

It is now appealing for new corporate sponsors and volunteers to support its vital work.

The BCUSG is run wholly by volunteers with support from individual donors and businesses, including Bath-based financial firm Royal London, where staff have raised just over £84,000 in total through donations and fundraising activities over the past three years.

However, the partnership with Royal London has now ended and the BCUSG is looking for new commercial partners to help fund essential medical equipment for cancer patients at the RUH.

Lovehoney, the Bath-based online sexual wellbeing retailer, also recently donated £1,500 and several of its staff have signed up to run the Bath Half Marathon in aid of the charity.

In addition, the BCUSG recently launched new fundraising groups covering Frome, Shepton Mallet, Midsomer Norton and Radstock and is looking for additional volunteer helpers from these areas.

BCUSG chairman Mike Taylor, pictured, said: “Reaching the £5m milestone is a fantastic achievement for a small charity like ours and we couldn’t have done it without the amazing efforts of all our volunteers, donors and business supporters.

“We would like to say a special thank you to the staff at Royal London who really did pull out all the stops with their fundraising efforts for the charity.

“But we need more businesses and volunteers to join us and ensure we can continue with the important work we do on behalf of cancer patients at the RUH.”
