Brewer Bath Ales has signed a lease for a Bath venue that will be its biggest to date and is set to become a flagship for the fast-growing business.

At just over 5,000 sq ft, the new site, next to Bath Spa train station, is double the size of any of the brewer’s other outlets. Bath Ales plans to open the venue as the latest in its Graze Bar, Brewery and Chophouse chain, before Christmas.

Bath Ales retail director Robin Couling said: “This is a really exciting development for us. The existing Graze locations in Bristol and Cirencester have been fantastically well received and with a central location attracting both visitors and residents we are confident that Graze will be a welcome addition to the city of Bath.”

Award-winning Bath Ales has already opened two venues this year – in Oxford and Cirencester.

The Bath Graze will be part of a new food quarter in the final phase of the city’s new £360m shopping centre now under development, It is being created in and around the arches of the 19th century railway station.

The bar and restaurant will take up the entire first floor with two large outside areas for al fresco dining.  It will seat around 140 diners.

It will also have a large open-plan kitchen, a meat hanging room and a micro-brewery producing specialist craft beers.

Bath Ales' existing outlets in the city include The Hop Pole on the Upper Bristol Road and The Salamander in the heart of the city on John Street. The new Graze takes Bath Ales' tally of managed sites to 11 and will be its third Graze Bar & Chophouse. The first was launched in Bristol’s Queen Square in 2009 and the Cirencester branch was added earlier this year.

The brewery is based at Warmley, between Bath and Bristol.
