Geoff Rich, a partner at Bath-based architects Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, will be taking part in a 1,500km bike ride from London to Cannes to raise money for the Richard Feilden Foundation (RFF).

The RFF was set up in memory of Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios founder Richard Feilden, who died in an accident at his home on the outskirts of Bath seven years ago.

It is the UK’s only charitable foundation specialising in education, architecture and Africa and has a mission is to improve the long-term sustainability and effectiveness of secondary and in particular, vocational education across the poorest regions of the continent.

Its first major programme is the five-year development of Lake Bunyonyi Vocational & Secondary School in Uganda to turn it into an exemplar institution. The working model will then be rolled out across the rest of the country. The foundation is working closely with the Uganda Ministry of Education to achieve this. Geoff Rich said: “Richard Feilden was an inspirational work colleague and a very keen cyclist himself. The RFF does lots of amazing work to provide education and architecture for some of the poorest communities in the world.

“Taking part in the Cycle to Cannes is going to be the toughest physical challenge of my life but I’m sure the idea of raising funds for such a great cause will help keep me going.” The ride sets off from London on March 1 and aims to arrive in Cannes six days later.
