Barclays has provided a £1.3m loan to Bath specialist care home Springfield House to fund a 24-bed extension.

The expansion will more than double to 39 the total number of beds at the residential dementia care home on Entry Hill. Staffing levels at the home, which opened in 2010, will increase from 21 to between 60 and 70 full and part-time when the extension is fully operational.

Facilities at Springfield House include an enclosed garden with spectacular views over Bath and private bedrooms with en-suite facilities.

Work on the extension is underway and is expected to be completed in time for it to be opened this July.

Barclays Healthcare team relationship director Carol Jones, pictured, said: “With the UK’s population ageing at its fastest rate yet, supporting the operation and expansion of quality care has never been more important. Barclays is committed to the industry and will continue to support strong operators such as Springfield House in achieving their growth ambitions”.

Springfield House owner-director June Phillips added: “Barclays has been a strong and supportive funder of Springfield as we expand our business to meet the growing need for quality care provision in the UK.

“We’re delighted to have completed the Springfield House funding and look forward to successfully completing the project and welcoming residents to their new home.”
