Six Bath firms are showing their support for local carers by sponsoring the Bath and North East Somerset Carers’ Centre’s annual awards night.

A major donation by NHS healthcare provider Sirona Care & Health has enabled the centre to recognise the ‘unsung heroes’ in the local community through the Celebrating Carers event.

Sirona, based at St Martin’s Hospital, Odd Down, is Celebrating Carers’ headline sponsor. Other organisations backing the awards by sponsoring a category each are social housing firm Curo, Bath College, specialist charity accounting, training and consultancy services firm Gerrard Financial, personal care provider Way Ahead Care and communications tech firm Gradwell.

The Carers’ Centre supports more than 4,000 people who are looking after someone across Bath and North East Somerset.

The centre recognises that caring for someone because they have a long-term illness, disability or are frail is rewarding but can also be very isolating, stressful and tiring.

The Celebrating Carers Awards takes place in October 14 between 5pm and 7pm in the
Somerdale Pavilion, Cross Road, Keynsham.

The awards aim to recognise carers who have made contributions to their local community while managing a caring role, as well as community partners such as schools, businesses and volunteers who have gone the extra mile to help carers or the Carers’ Centre.

Last year the awards were hosted by BBC presenter Ali Vowles, who described carers a “hidden army”.

Sirona chief executive Janet Rowse said the night will be an opportunity to applaud carers for their selflessness.

She added: “Carers are the unsung heroes in health and social care…they are crucial and this event puts them centre stage where they deserve.

“This is a special occasion for a special group of people and Sirona is proud to be supporting it.”

Bath and North East Somerset Carers’ Centre is an independent charity and the leading provider of support, advice and breaks away from caring for the 20,000 people who are carers in Bath and North East Somerset.

It provides a wide range of free support services to carers throughout the area and actively seeks out carers to access help, support and services.
