Breakfast TV viewers in Australia will wake up to a live pictures from Bath as the popular TODAY Show broadcasts from the city.

The Channel 9 programme is the country’s landmark breakfast programme providing viewers with a mix of news, sport, weather, entertainment and current affairs, focussing on the stories, it says, that make Australians tick.

As part of its week-long visit to Britain in the lead up to the London Olympics, the show is broadcasting live this evening from the Roman Baths between 8.30pm and 11.30pm British Summer Time – 5:30am and 8.30am in Australia.

Bath Tourism Plus has been supporting the show’s team prepare for the broadcast, during which its weather man Steve Jacobs will see – and taste – the best of Bath’s attractions, food and culture.

After a walking tour organised by Experience Bath and visits to Bath’s iconic sites such as the Circus, No 1 Royal Crescent, Roman Baths and Thermae Bath Spa, he will sample Bath’s two famous buns – the Sally Lunn and Bath Bun.

He will also don full Georgian dress for a spot of Regency dancing and submerge himself into Thermae Bath Spa’s rooftop pool.

Bath Tourism Plus chief executive Nick Brooks Sykes said hosting TODAY was a real coup as the other British cities chosen for live broadcasts are the national capitals Edinburgh, Cardiff and London.

“It is a real honour, especially as internationally, Australia is a key inbound market and presents major growth potential,” he said.

Bath Tourism Plus works with the public and private sectors to market the city to leisure and business travellers.
