Well-heeled travellers have voted Bath as the UK’s best city in an upmarket magazine readers’ poll with boutique hotel No.15 Great Pulteney Street landing a hat-trick of accolades in the same awards.

Thousands of readers of Luxury Lifestyle Magazine nominated their top picks among some of the country’s most revered destinations and show-stopping hotels. Their selections then had to impress a judging panel before the prestigious awards were announced.

Bath beat stiff competition from 10 other cities, including London, Edinburgh and Bristol, to take the coveted title, making it the first ever winner of the accolade.

The 40-bedroom No.15 Great Pulteney Street, pictured below, part of Bath hoteliers Ian and Christa Taylor’s Kaleidoscope Collection, was shortlisted in three categories: Best Boutique Hotel; Best City Hotel and Best Newcomer.

The judges agreed that as a city built for wellbeing and indulgence, Bath was the perfect destination for a city break with its beautiful Georgian architecture, Roman remains, diverse attractions and thermal spa waters. They also praised its vibrant festivals, boutique shops and independent restaurants.

Visit Bath chief executive David James said: “We are delighted to be crowned the Best UK City by Luxury Lifestyle Magazine, ahead of capital cities such as London and Edinburgh and our neighbour Bristol.

“Bath is a modern city which combines elegant architecture and remarkable attractions with contemporary spa facilities, a lively calendar of festivals and an enticing range of accommodation, from luxury five-star hotels to boutique guesthouses. All of this makes Bath the perfect city break destination for visitors from the UK and abroad.

“We also congratulate No.15 Great Pulteney on its success in the awards. This boutique hotel offers a unique stay for visitors to the city and as a relative newcomer to the city it is fantastic to see that its outstanding offering is already being recognised.”

Luxury Lifestyle Magazine editor Nick Gilmartin said competition had been fierce for the awards and that winners should be “incredibly proud” of their achievements.

“We’re thrilled to have finally been able to unveil the first-ever winners of Luxury Lifestyle Magazine Readers’ Travel Awards,” he said.

“At Luxury Lifestyle Magazine, we’re not just about luxury – we look out for those hotels, destinations and travel companies which have something truly special to offer, going above and beyond the expected to offer a really outstanding experience.

“We have our readers to thank for helping us find some of them, and after a great deal of deliberation, we can confidently say that our deserving winners are the very finest the industry has to offer.”

The prestigious were staged in partnership with Salcombe Gin.
