Bath firms operating in the low carbon sector can get expert advice on innovation in energy systems at the next in a series of workshops staged by the city’s Sustainable Technologies Business Acceleration Hub (STBAH).

Based in the University of Bath’s existing city centre innovative unit, STBAH aims to develop more than 130 small and medium-sized businesses over the next three years.

Part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund, it is the UK’s first business acceleration hub focused on helping set up and grow a new generation of innovative small firms in the sustainable technologies sector.

It has put together a series of free, low carbon innovation workshops with Low Carbon South West to provide initial entry points into the STBAH programme for relevant companies.

Following a successful first workshop in Bristol on the built environment, the second one will be on low carbon innovation in energy systems and will look at themes, trends and how to get funded. It takes place at The Innovation Centre, Bath, next Thursday, July 12.

Project manager Katherine Piper said: “The workshop programmes have been set up to support businesses in low carbon innovation and we have identified a number of sector specific areas we feel are key. Through our links with the University of Bath and within the low carbon environment we are able to secure key speakers and researchers which delegates attending will benefit from and be able to tap into their expertise.

“Funding is a crucial element for any start up or business seeing growth and we are delighted to have secured a fantastic panel lineup for our July event who can openly discussed funding and grants available.”

STBAH project team member Pete Keevill added: “For delegates attending the workshop programmes will provide four hours of support and a further eight hours of individual, specific free support can then be discussed.  These workshops offer a great opportunity for businesses or individuals to network with expert advisers and help them achieve their goals.”
