BMT Group ditches Isis name for Bath-based subsidiary that counts MoD among its customers

International engineering consultancy BMT has changed the name of its Bath-based BMT Isis subsidiary to BMT Cadence as a result of “sensitivities” around the use of a word now linked to the Islamic State jihadist militant group.

The company, which works with clients in ‘high-hazard’ industries such as defence, energy and transport sectors, is the latest in a long line of businesses to drop the Isis name.

Its customers include the MoD and major defence contractors such as Ultra Electronics, General Dynamics and Meggitt Avionics.

BMT Cadence managing director Mike Prince said: “Given recent global events, we recognise the sensitivities around any organisation using the name Isis and we hope that the name change will serve as clear affirmation of BMT’s support to our clients operating within UK and global defence markets and the front-line forces that we collectively serve.”

The word ‘cadence’ was chosen for its strong resonances to the way BMT does business, as it means measured and rhythmic, he said.

Measured aligns particularly well with BMT’s proportionate approach to risk management and its focus on providing pragmatic advice that acts as an enabler for client operations. It also reinforced the “considered and thoughtful” manner in which the BMT teams communicate and engage.

Mike added: “Our new name also emphasises our on-going commitment to match and support the operational pace and tempo of our clients. But whatever our name, our focus on adding value will still be very much at the forefront of our business enabling BMT’s clients to succeed, safely and sustainably.”

BMT Cadence provides technical and engineering analysis, advice, management tools, systems and training to designers, operators, managers, owners and investors.

Parent group BMT is an international design, engineering and risk management consultancy with major interests in Bath. It works principally in the defence, energy and environment, marine risk and insurance, maritime transport and ports and logistics sectors.
