Craft brewery Yonder has launched another pair of limited edition seasonal beers using locally foraged ingredients.

Mrs Patterson and Serpents continue the Mendip farmhouse brewery’s trend for eclectically named drinks that showcase the variety of flavours available on its doorstep while also eliminating food miles.

Mrs Patterson is a pear, blackberry & ginger pastry sour beer brewed as a tribute to the iconic mother from the popular alternative comedy TV series Harry Enfield & Chums, while Serpents  is a craft beer and cider hybrid produced in collaboration with Somerset’s Pilton Cider.

Based near Binegar, Yonder was founded two years ago by Jasper Tupman and Stuart Winstone, who formerly worked at the Wild Beer Company, based near Shepton Mallet.

The pair, who share a passion for foraging, fermentation and flavour, invested everything they had to build their unique vision of carefully crafted beers with a strong sense of place.

They were joined in 2019 by former Dawkins of Bristol head brewer Dave Williams. Ex-Cotswold Brew Co sales director Lee Calnan joined them in a similar role.

Last year marked a further phase of development when it started to expand its innovative, modern farmhouse brewing to a wider audience in the UK and beyond.

Stuart Winstone said he hoped Mrs Patterson would be an indication of what the future holds for Yonder.

“Like Harry Enfield & Chums, we hope that in 30 years’ time Yonder will be an iconic British brand which is still able to surprise and delight its followers,” he said.

“This beer is not only full of character, but characters. You have the long-suffering mum, Mrs Patterson, with her delicious pear and blackberry crumble. There’s Kevin the wayward ginger son, and of course, Kevin’s friend Perry is referenced in the overtly pear-y flavour.”

Mrs Patterson is now available in 440ml cans, with an RRP of £6 per can.

Serpents is brewed with a high percentage of apple juice from two varieties of local apple and fermented with Yonder’s unique house cultures.

The brewery describes it as having a dry finish of a natural farmhouse cider balanced by the full body and sweetness from the malt together with slight hop bitterness.

It is available in 375ml bottles, with an RRP of £6.60 per bottle.

Yonder’s core range of beer is available in 440ml cans and includes its flagship beer Raspberry Gose, a sour fruited beer with an abv of 4%, Acapella, a heavyweight pilsner with an abv of 5.5%, Sub Culture, a 4.5% abv mixed fermentation dry-hopped pale ale, Coolbox, a 3.5% abv session helles beer, and Boogie, a 3.8% abv modern bitter.
