Bristol Airport closed as more snow today brings havoc to region’s transport links

Heavy snow overnight and this morning around Bath and across the West of England has closed Bristol Airport and brought chaos to many of the region’s roads.

With commuters struggling to get to work this morning, many businesses urged their staff to work from home rather than venture out. Buses were running on central routes although some services using side roads disrupted.

All flights to and from Bristol Airport were cancelled or diverted to other airports this morning as workers struggled to clear the runway as more snow fell. Airport bosses had said it would remain closed until at least midday but warned that flights would continue to be disrupted into this afternoon. Travellers were urged to contact their airline before setting out while those arriving at the airport were advised to check-in and wait for the runway to be cleared.

An airport spokesman said: “Customers are advised to allow extra time when travelling to the airport and to keep up-to-date with local weather and travel updates.”

There were delays on rail services between Westbury and Castle Combe after a train broke down. The line re-opened this afternoon although GWR said some disruption would continue.

Further show is forecast for the region later today, making a tough journey home for commuters.
