The best new buildings in the Bath area – from home extensions to office developments – are being sought for an awards scheme unique to the city.

Nominations can be made for building design and build quality projects across Bath and the surrounding area.

The Bath & North East Somerset Council Building Control Awards for Building and Design Quality are sponsored by Bath Stone Group and are now in their 13th year.

Established to celebrate the very best of design and build quality, the award categories range from small extensions up to large commercial projects. Work on the area’s listed buildings is also eligible.

The council’s building control surveyors inspect construction work from a building quality point of view but members of the public, architects and designers are welcome to give their nominations for the design quality category.

Cabinet member for homes and planning, Cllr Tim Ball, said: “We want to hear about extensions, complete houses and commercial buildings that people feel are worthy of a design award – due to the materials used, the suitability for purpose, or any special reason.

“These awards recognise first-rate design and construction and to help to continue and encourage the tradition of the high quality of the district’s building.”

The awards are sponsored by The Bath Stone Group (BSG), producer and manufacturer of award-winning Bath Stone.

BSG chairman Elaine Marson added: “We are once again proud to be supporting these prestigious awards, and to see high quality in building design and construction being encouraged and rewarded.”

Awards are presented in two categories – Building Quality and Design Quality – for domestic extensions, new dwellings, commercial/public buildings and works to historic/listed buildings.

To nominate a project contact Philip Mansfield, building control manager at the council, on 01225 477541 or at phil_mansfield@bathnes.gov.uk

Closing date for nominations is November 1. The awards are judged by an independent panel of architects and the awards ceremony will be held at the Guildhall, Bath, next February.
