The organisers of TEDxBath are seeking inspirational speakers for this year’s event to explore its chosen theme of Echoes of the City from “unusual, exciting and provocative perspectives”. They are also looking to sign up sponsors from among the citys business community.

TEDx, which brings the spirit of TED (Technology, Entertainment & Design) to communities around the globe with engaging local speakers, celebrates its 10th birthday this year.

TEDx Bath 2019 takes place at The Holburne Museum during the afternoon of Saturday September 21.

Organised by creative, business and health professionals looking to discover ideas and spark conversations in the city, it will feature 10 speakers who will help the audience discover the hidden treasures of history that can ignite people’s imagination and open them up new ideas.

Event lead curator Geoff Rich said: “We’ll be asking which of our ideas of today have the potential to influence and ‘echo’ to future generations?

“We’re seeking inspiring speakers with ideas from the fields of digital technology, business, eco-systems, inventions, education, creative arts, and well-being. We’ll be looking at how advances in technology, design and collaborations can spark new conversations with change makers, thinkers and doers and result in new ideas that can help all of us to break some exciting new ground – right here in Bath.”

TEDxBath will be open to 100 attendees – with organisers saying they want to attract everyone from businesspeople, educators, artists, activists, doctors, builders, pastors, lawyers, students to anyone interesting in broaden their minds, network, share and engage with the talks.

Lead organiser Rhodora Baguilat added: “Most TEDx events get booked out in a matter of hours, and we’ve already had a lot of interest regarding attendance at the event.”

As a non-profit organisation, TEDxBath is also looking for sponsors to support the event, from financial to in-kind sponsorship. Bath-headquartered law firm Royds Withy King has already committed to be a headline sponsor following on from the success of TEDxBath 2018.

“We welcome partnership with forward-thinking, dynamic sponsors wanting to embrace new ideas, and who are passionate about involving themselves in and improving communities in Bath,” added Rhodora.

A sponsors’ evening will be held next Thursday, May 23, between 6pm and 8pm at the Bath Brew House pub on James St West.

Last year’s TEDx in Bath Abbey featured international, national and local speakers, including TV presenter and architect Piers Taylor, Bath-based landscape architect Andrew Grant and Penny Hay, originator of Bath’s Forest of Imagination.
