Buying consortium on the lookout for the West’s best brands to sell in China

West businesses making or supplying upmarket products are today getting an opportunity to meet buyers from China purchasing consortium Hi Lifestyle when they visit the region.

Hi Lifestyle is looking for partners to help it satisfy ever-growing demand in China for high-end products, particularly those regarded as aspirational or with strong luxury brands.

While fashion brands such Mulberry, Clarks and Superdry are already known in China – and in some cases have become much sought after – lesser-known producers, designers and suppliers could follow in their footsteps and find eager buyers in the huge and fast-growing economy.

Trade links with China are in the spotlight this week with the high-profile visit to the UK by Chinese premier Li Keqiang.

The meet-the-buyer event, organised by UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) in conjunction with the China-Britain Business Council (CBBC), is taking place at the Mercure Holland House Hotel in Bristol.

UKTI China adviser Antoaneta Becker said: “China has become the fastest-growing market in the world, providing endless commercial opportunities for British businesses, particularly those specialising in food, drink, fashion and affordable luxury goods.

“Chinese consumers are already familiar with the big British brands. However, we are keen to raise awareness of the multitude of smaller producers of high-quality consumer goods and original brands in the region.”

UKTI will also be leading a market visit to China on September 20-27, while China and Hong Kong were also the main focus of the recent week-long International Festival of Business, where delegates had the opportunity to learn more about trade, investment and other commercial opportunities in this lucrative market.

To register for the market visit in September, contact Angela Maynard-Smith at angela.maynard-smith@uktisouthwest.org or call 01275 370 810.
