Bath-based celebrity chef Martin Blunos’ award-winning restaurant in the city has closed after less than a year. The 60-cover fish and seafood restaurant, based in the luxury County Hotel in Pulteney Road, has not opened since New Year’s Eve.

The stylish restaurant – called Blunos – earned rave reviews from food critics and won the best seafood restaurant category in the Bath Good Food Awards despite having been open for just nine months. It also became a honeypot for tourists and was being extensively marketed as the latest addition to Bath's growing fine dining offer.

The menu at the restaurant changed daily depending on what fish Mr Blunos decided was best sold in the markets that morning in Devon and Cornwall.

Mr Blunos, born in Bath of Latvian parents, has cooked in top restaurants around the world and has carved out a successful TV career as a celebrity chef. He previoulsy ran the Lettonie and Bilinis restaurants in Bath – both of which boasted an unrivaled two Michelin stars.

He said in a statement that the hotel’s owner had closed the restaurant and the decision was “nothing to do with” him.

Mr Blunos, currently working on projects in Latvia, added: “I’m saddened to see that what was potentially a great business is no longer operating.

“We were packed and receiving brilliant reviews and had an efficient team delivering a good product which was proving to be hugely popular with the people of Bath.”

He added: “However, I wish the owner every success with whatever direction he has chosen to go with the premises.”

The 20-room County Hotel is a member of the small Seasons Holiday Collection luxury hotel group.
