An app that enables businesses to communicate with each other about crimes such as shoplifting is to be launched in Bath city centre following a successful trial period.

The DISC system, pictured, allows firms to submit live reports on incidents happening in their premises.

After being trialled by Bath Business Improvement District (Bath BID), it is now available free for the BID’s near-700 levy payers.

DISC is an online information-sharing system that helps communities reduce low-level crime and anti-social behaviour. is the UK’s leading crime prevention engagement platform.

The system is used in more than 500 towns, cities and areas across the UK and by the police.

DISC was launched in Bath at an event in Komedia, which heard from DISC managing director Steve Lang and was attended by more than 50 day-time and night-time economy businesses.

Many of the businesses at the event requested access as soon as possible.

DISC’s introduction is part of the Safe and Secure Bath’s Business Crime Reduction Partnership – a project run by the Bath BID to support city centre businesse to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour.

Bath BID was set up in 2011 to keep the city centre area safe and clean.

An independent and not-for-profit, business-led initiative, it has since set up a number of schemes including a trade waste partnership, the introduction of rangers and welcome ambassadors and the Bath Gift Card scheme.

Following a second renewal ballot in 2021, the BID secured a contract to operate until 2026.

It is one of around 330 BIDs across the UK and Ireland.
