Sponsored hikes, quizzes and a competition to name its vans helped Bath-based housing association Curo raise nearly £12,000 for its charity of the year Time is Precious.

The family-run, Radstock-based charity fundraises to equip children’s hospital wards with stress-relieving equipment, making a stay more relaxing for them and their family.

Activities organised by Curo staff to reach the total of £11,852 also included a cycle challenge and a charity raffle with prizes donated from 66 local and national businesses.

Curo chief executive Victor da Cunha, who contribute £1,800 by completing a half marathon, said: “It’s been wonderful working with Time is Precious and we’ve loved raising money for such a great cause.

“Some of our colleagues have done some truly amazing and inspiring things to raise money and awareness for such a fantastic local charity.”

Time is Precious was set up in 2011 by Neil and Nicky Halford in memory of their son Ben, who died from cancer the previous year.

He had been cared for at Bristol Children’s and Frenchay hospitals and on Bath Royal United Hospital’s children’s ward for almost four years.

Nicky, who is a director of the charity, said: “We would like to thank Curo from the bottom of our hearts for choosing Time is Precious as their charity of the year for two years.

“The last two years have been a struggle for us all and the support has meant so much. Raising such a huge amount is totally fantastic: it has gone such a long way.”

The money has been used to help refurbish the Bath Royal United Hospital’s children’s ward garden as well as providing Christmas presents and life-enhancing items to children on the ward.

The remaining money will be spent on refurbishing the ward to make it a more child-friendly place to visit.
