Individuals who have been supported into work and training through an innovative programme run by Bath-based housing and support organisation Curo have been recognised.

Curo’s accredited work placement programme started in 2014 and has supported nearly 70 local people, many of whom attended a ceremony hosted by the business at The Bath Hilton.

Participants in the programme get invaluable work experience while gaining an NVQ accredited by Bath College.

Of the 68 participants who completed the programme, 31 have continued into employment, 17 are now in further training or education and 14 are currently in a placement.

Curo employment, training & engagement coordinator Lisa Quayle said: “We designed our programme as a way to support Curo customers currently claiming out of work benefits, by offering routes into work and training.

“It’s made a real difference to people’s lives thanks to the commitment of many different organisations, local businesses and mentors, especially Bath College and Bath Jobcentre who have played an important role in setting up the programme.”

Special awards were made to Curo residents James Mogg, Leighton Parfitt and Charlene Ford, who are all now in full-time work, having benefited from accredited work placements.

Leighton recently secured an apprenticeship position with Curo, having first joined the business on a work placement after struggling to find a stable job.

Lisa said: “Leighton is a shining example and inspiration to others who have found themselves out of work and with no choice but to claim benefits. What really shone through when I met Leighton was his motivation to get out and do something; to help himself out of the situation. He just needed that opportunity.”

Curo is calling for local businesses that might be able to offer work placements to get in contact on 01225 36600 or visit www.curo-group.co.uk.
