The hunt has started for a new chair for Designability, the Bath charity that has been providing its unique Wizzybug wheelchairs free of charge to very young disabled children since 2011.

Designability, which began life in 1968 as the Bath Institute of Medical Engineering, has helped more than 300,000 disabled children and adults live with greater independence.

Its team of designers and engineers based at Bath’s Royal United Hospital create life-changing assistive products to help disabled people who are facing challenges every day.

The charity has appointed Bristol-based Moon Executive Search as its official recruitment partner to appoint a new chair of Designability’s board.

Moon will play a key role in assisting the charity by using its extensive networks and search methodologies.

The chair will champion Designability’s vision and values and, with the support of the executive team and trustees, will ensure the charity’s goals are met.

Designability’s mission is to make products and technology more accessible to everyone. The team follows the principles of human-centered design – everything it develops is done in response to what people tell them they need.

The aim is for people to achieve greater independence and happiness in their lives – goals that benefit all of society.

The chair will need to have operated at a senior level ideally as an executive, non-exec or chair, with an empathy and understanding of the challenges faced by disabled people, ideally by having lived experience either personally or as a family member or carer.

This role is unpaid, although travel and other legitimate expenses may be claimed.

For a candidate briefing pack contact Sandy Hinks, head of charity practice, at Moon Executive Search by email recruit@moonexecutivesearch.com quoting ref JO 2158.

The deadline for applications is midnight on August 31.
