Bath Business Improvement District (BID), the membership organisation tasked with boosting city centre trade, is to launch a café and restaurant discount scheme aimed at directly benefiting people who live or work in the city.

Under the B-LOCAL scheme, Bath residents and those commuting into the city to work will qualify for a Discovery Card to enjoy discounts at a range of eateries, cafés and bars as well as free entry to tourist attractions.

The BID said some of Bath’s finest eating and drinking establishments had developed special treats and benefits for local people to enjoy – however, they apply only during mid-week and in school term times only.

These restaurants, cafés and bars recognise that local people are the backbone of their business and want to find ways to give something extra, according to the BID. Each offer is different – from breakfast to pizza and coffee, fine dining to drinks.

Residents and commuters can find out more from www.b-localbath.co.uk To take part they will need proof that they live or work in the city such as a Discovery Card, employee badge of proof of address.

The participating businesses include Amarone Restaurant, Bath Pizza Co, Century Casino, Chandos Deli, Clayton’s Kitchen, The Gainsborough, Green Park Brasserie, Giraffe, Good Day Café, The Ivy, Koffman’s & Mr White, Koh, Mokoko, No. 15 Great Pulteney, The Raven, Rosarios Café, Sally Lunn’s, Slug & Lettuce and The Whole Bagel.

Bath BID CEO Allison Herbert said: “What a great range of mouth-watering offers. We are delighted with the response by our food & beverage businesses to this initiative. They really want to provide something special for local people, not just those that live in Bath, but all those that work in the city too.”

Last October, the BID launched the Bath Gift Card, having signed up more than 200 businesses, including many of the city’s top independent restaurants, shops and hotels to take part in a pioneering loyalty scheme aimed at boosting the city’s retail and leisure economy and helping independent traders fight back against intense competition from online shopping giants such as Amazon and eBay.

The card works in a similar way to own-brand schemes and can be loaded with between £10 to £500 to spend in any of the businesses taking part.
