Employers offered free stands at college jobs fair

Free stands are being offered to employers at Bath College’s Futures Apprenticeships and Jobs Fair.

Hundreds of young people will be looking for jobs and opportunities at the event in March – making it an ideal opportunity for West employers to promote apprenticeships and vacancies to students and to speak to potential new employees.

The event, organised by the college’s Futures Team, is open to all 16 to 18 year olds in Bath. It takes place at The Guildhall on Wednesday March 22 from noon to 6.30pm.

More than 800 people visited last year’s event, where a number of students secured interviews and apprenticeships after meeting employers on the day.

Among them was Becky Howard, 17, who was hired as a Level 2 apprentice administrator by housing association Curo.

She said: “I spoke to Lisa, Curo’s employment, training and engagement coordinator. I got a good idea of what they did and that made me apply for an apprenticeship. Within a few days I had an interview.

“I really like it here. You can’t get a job without experience, so an apprenticeship is a good way of getting your foot in the door.”

The Futures Team works to create job opportunities, contact with employers, opportunities for live projects and work placements for students.

After taking place in the college’s Roper Building last year, the event has been moved to the larger Guildhall, thanks to support from Bath & North East Somerset Council.

More than 60 employers are expected to attend from a wide range of sectors, including the Royal United Hospital, healthcare company Dimensions, Bath-based manufacturer Rotork, and retail giant Marks & Spencer.

Bath College employability adviser Lucy Beattie said: “We are looking forward to welcoming a huge variety of employers to the event, and giving students from the college and the wider community the chance to explore as many apprenticeship and work opportunities as possible.

“I hope the event will open students’ eyes to the myriad of opportunities available locally and nationally. We’d be delighted to have any employer thinking of taking on an apprentice in the next few years or looking for new staff at the event.”
