Helen Witcombe, a personal assistant at Bath-based Epoch Wealth Management, is preparing to scale Africa’s highest mountain in support of children with life-limiting conditions.

Helen, pictured, will climb Mount Kilimanjaro to raise much-needed funds for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

Her epic adventure will involve travelling to Tanzania next month where she will spend six days trekking to the top of Kilimanjaro, which is 5,895m high (19,341ft above sea level).

Climbers attempting the challenge can endure temperatures as low as -20C at the peak, as well as 70mph winds and oxygen at 50 per cent of normal levels.

Helen said: “This is a challenging trek at altitude. Anyone who knows me will know how much I enjoy my home comforts so this will be a tough challenge for me both mentally and physically. But the fact that I will be raising money for such an important cause makes me all the more determined to succeed.”

Epoch has supported CHSW already this year by sponsoring a fundraising dinner in Bath but wanted to do more to help the charity. CHSW provides assistance to young people who have a shortened life expectancy and their families.

Helen has set a fundraising target of £2,000 which she hopes to beat. To donate, visit www.justgiving.com/HelenWCHSW
