Event: Life as a landlord – 2016 and beyond

Landlords are to get the chance to quiz a panel of experts on issues spanning Brexit, taxation and best buys on buy-to-let mortgages.

The property debate next Thursday, May 26, is being staged by Keynsham-based Andrews Property Group at the town’s Somerdale Pavilion. It will also be live streamed online for those unable to attend in person.

The event follows the success of Andrews’ pre-election panel debate a year ago. It will focus on what impact a Brexit vote on June 23 would mean for landlords of all sizes and levels of experience and how changes in the taxation regime will affect landlords, along with what the best buy-to-let products on the market currently are.

It is being held in partnership with tax specialists at accountants Smith & Williamson and will include a panel of experts from across the property world including Andrews Letting & Management managing director David Westgate, Andrews Financial Services managing director Paul Bumford, and Michael Robson, CEO of Andrews Property Group.

Joining them will be Karen Press, who has been working in private client tax for 20 years and joined Smith & Williamson in August 2015.

She deals with income tax planning, capital gains tax planning, inheritance tax planning and property tax planning. She will look at how this legislation will affect landlords and what planning can be considered before the new rules come in.

David Westgate said: “The buy-to-let landscape is constantly evolving and this last year has seen particular change. This can understandably leave landlords feeling unsettled.

“When coupled with uncertainty around the UK’s future in Europe and the impact that a possible exit from the EU could have on the lettings market, we’re finding that landlords are faced with a myriad of questions that our expert panel will be well placed to provide guidance on.”

Anyone interested in attending in person or watching the debate via the live streaming should register at https://andrewsonline.co.uk/property-sessions .

Doors open at 6.15pm with the discussion starting at 6,45pm. It is expected to end by 8pm. Live streaming will start at 7pm.
