Jonothan McColgan, director of Bath-based financial advisers Combined Financial Strategies, has been named Financial Adviser of the Year at the 2016 Growth Investor Awards after coming runner-up last year.

The coveted awards, now in their second year, are staged by Intelligent Partnership, the UK’s leading curator of education and insights on alternative investments.

Jonothan, who launched Combined Financial Strategies 16 years ago, collected his award in front of more than 400 industry professionals at London’s Marriott Grosvenor Square Hotel.

Jonothan and Combined Financial Strategies, which offers independent financial advice on retirement, investments and tax planning strategies, are no strangers to industry awards, having won a large number over the years.

Earlier this year Jonothan claimed a hat-trick of trophies at the unbiased.co.uk Media Awards 2016 – retirement adviser of the year, estate planning adviser of the year and the judges’ overall award for his outstanding contribution to the financial press.

And in the summer Combined Financial Strategies landed the retirement planner of the year accolade at the Retirement Forum & Awards.

Jonothan’s latest award recognises how he applies his expertise to add value for clients, and his ability to advise them on tax-efficient investments as part of their investment proposition.

He said: “It can be very hard for clients to know who to trust with their money and financial security. It can seem like a massive leap of faith.

“Words do not do justice to how happy and honoured I am to be recognised as Financial Adviser of the Year. Winning this award against such tough competition from all over the country is the highlight of my career.”

Intelligent Partnership research director Daniel Kiernan added: “Jonothan was commended as ‘outstanding’ across the board.

“He has done significant work promoting the tax efficiency of investments, while retaining a holistic approach to financial advice.”

The 14 awards were presented by broadcaster Steph McGovern and comedian Mark Watson.
