Firms urged to boost charities’ coffers by taking part in Bath’s Dragon Boat Race

Bath businesses are being invited to enter teams for the city’s third annual Dragon Boat Race and bring in much-needed cash for two charities.

Since its launch in 2016 the race has raised more than £34,000 for Designability, the Bath-based charity which designs and creates assistive technology and products for people living with a disability or long-term health conditions.

This year’s Dragon Boat Race, which takes place on Sunday September 8, will again support Designability as well as Mountain Way, which supports UK Military Veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

The race takes place on the River Avon at Bath Riverside, the major mixed-use development being undertaken by property group Crest Nicholson on the city’s former industrial heartland.

Designability fundraising development manager Genevieve Arney said: “The Bath Dragon Boat Race is a great event for teams to get involved in. Not only is it loads of fun on the day, you don’t need to do any training beforehand, unless you want to.

“We always see a good mix of local businesses, groups of friends and clubs taking part and it doesn’t matter if you come first or last, you’re still raising vitally important funds for two great charities.”

Events will run throughout the day with teams competing in a minimum of three races each. There will also be refreshments available and more activities to keep everyone entertained in-between races.

Crest Nicholson senior projects director Neil Dawtrey said: “We’re pleased to be able to welcome the Bath Dragon Boat Race back to Bath Riverside again for what promises to be another superb day.

“Events like this are an important part of the community life at Riverside and the organisers of the Dragon Boat Race have raised significant amounts of money for worthy causes over recent years.”

Last year’s winner, Bath-based independent financial advice firm Advance Investments, has already signed up to defend the title and is hoping for some stiff competition on the day.

Places for this year’s race are filling up quickly and anyone wanting to take part is encouraged to email thedragon@designability.org.uk for more information.
