The University of Bath has been ranked seventh nationally for graduate prospects – and best in the South West – according to a major new guide.

The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide places Bath 12th in the overall league table of 128 institutions, the same as last year. It also highlights how its students enjoy some of the highest rates of employment.

Some 85.4% of Bath graduates land professional jobs or go into further study within six months of leaving. They also enjoy some of the highest salaries with the average starting pay for Bath graduates more than £26,000.

The strong performance highlights the value of the university’s placement scheme, which is undertaken by two thirds of students in the private, public or not-for-profit sector giving them real-world, relevant experience. The guide also ranks Bath fifth nationally for student retention.

The league table is calculated on nine indicators including student satisfaction with teaching quality and the wider student experience, research quality, investment in the campus and its facilities.

University of Bath president and vice-chancellor Prof Dame Glynis Breakwell said: “The university is very proud of the excellent graduate job prospects we offer our students and we are delighted this is highlighted in the Good University Guide.

“It’s testament to the calibre of our students, and the excellent opportunities we provide to prepare them for careers upon graduating.

“As we celebrate the university’s 50th anniversary our strong ranking reflects our achievements in world-leading research, excellent teaching and the all-round student experience we offer.”
