Award-winning Bath student entrepreneur Tom Dewhurst is looking to expand his Ordable eating-out app now he has graduated from university.

Tom, pictured, who secured funding for Ordable in the University of Bath’s own version of the BBC’s Dragons’ Den, graduated on Wednesday.

Ordable enables users to browse menus, order and pay for food and drinks at cafes – saving time and giving them the opportunity to earn loyalty rewards.

The funding has enabled Tom and his team to develop and publish the app and to launch a trial at Bristol’s Engine Shed innovation hub, where users can order food and pay for drinks from its in-house café without leaving their table.

Tom now plans to bring the idea to a number of Bath eating places.

Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s ceremony, Tom said: “I’ve taken part in many of the Students' Union enterprise initiatives on campus, including Dragons’ Den, and it’s been a fantastic way for me to turn my ideas into reality.”

Also graduating at the same ceremony yesterday at Bath Abbey with an honorary degree was Rob Law, Bristol-based entrepreneur and inventor of the Trunki ride-on child’s suitcase.

Mr Law received his Doctor of Engineering degree in recognition of his exceptional achievements, including building a company which turns over £7.5m a year, with a Trunki suitcase being sold every minute.

The company now exports to over 97 countries, with the majority of manufacturing in the UK.

Prof Veronica Hope Hailey, dean of the School of Management, told at the ceremony: “Rob’s determination and success are inspiring, but all the more remarkable given the fact that he has cystic fibrosis. He has only relatively recently spoken publicly about living with the condition and his twin sister who lost her life to the illness when they were 15.”
