West Country rockers Reef, Star Wars Storm Troopers and the late Apple chief Steve Jobs may sound an unlikely combination but Bath creative sector workers can find out why they all play a role in protecting Intellectual Property (IP) at a one-off event next week.

Staged by Creative Bath, Money for Nothing: Protecting your IP will look at why IP is often a key factor determining commercial success for creative businesses but is often misunderstood or overlooked.

Patent and trademark attorneys EIP will share valuable insight into IP protection for creative businesses at the event held at The Innovation Centre, Carpenter House on June 12.

Their presentation will include the forms of protection available, what they protect, how they are obtained, the common myths and mistakes surrounding IP and a discussion around general good practice.

The presentation will be illustrated with three specific case studies:

* What would Steve do? How digital companies can be like Apple when it comes to protecting their products and software.

* Is the Force with you? How you protect a Star Wars Storm Trooper

*Come Place Your Hands. What have musicians Reef got to do with IP?

The session will end with a Q&A, where delegates will have the opportunity to put questions to a panel of business owners and creatives with first-hand experience of protecting their own IP.

The event  is from 6pm to 8.30pm. Tickets are £10 + VAT or £5 + VAT for students
