Intensive digital marketing bootcamps launched to help close Bath’s skills gap in the sector

Bootcamps for people looking for new and additional skills to embark on a career in marketing or business development are to be launched across the West of England – and employers are being urged to get involved to help the students.

Supported by the West of England Combined Authority (WECA) and run in partnership with Bath Spa University, Bath College, the University of Bath-led Institute of Coding, TechSPARK and Bath Digital Festival, they are aimed at giving students the opportunity to fast track their digital marketing skills to employment. 

The West of England is a major centre for digital marketing, which a raft of independent agencies as well as satellite offices of national consultancies.

The fully funded, 12-week courses will include:

  • An introduction to marketing
  • Campaign planning
  • Websites and search engine optimisation
  • Social media marketing
  • Analytics for tracking and measurement
  • Inquiries and lead conversion 
  • Personal and professional skills
  • Employment support including techniques for job applications and mock interviews.

The five bootcamps will run from this August to next March.

Employers are being sought to build relationships with the students as they progress through the courses, in particular as mentors, panellists, interviewers and project assessors to help them get the core skills they need for a job in digital marketing. Students taking part need to be aged 19-plus, live in Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol or South Gloucestershire and have desire, commitment and an interest in a career in digital marketing. For more details click here

The bootcamps follow the recent launch of courses in gaming software, digital marketing, data science, AI and user experience to help train more people for work in the region’s growing digital and creative businesses.

Recruitment for these courses, created by Next Generation, Bath Spa University and UWE Bristol also starts in August.

The courses are part of a £2m investment in skills by WECA.
