Melksham and Trowbridge-based property agent Kavanaghs has been instructed by Guildhall Estates to market new retail units at the East Melksham Local Centre.

Guildhall is developing the neighbourhood centre on a site about a mile from Melksham town centre next to the town’s new link road.

A pre-let to a food outlet has already been agreed on one of the units, and Kavanaghs says it is receiving a good level of inquiries from a range of retail operators such as hairdressers and beauty salons, betting shops, letting and estate agents, charities and other food outlets.

The mixed use scheme will be anchored by a 4,300 sq ft Morrisons M-Local convenience store, a Marston’s family pub/restaurant, five retail units with apartments above, and a car park.

Peasedown St John-based Halsall Construction has been appointed as the main contractor and construction work will start within the next few months.

The centre will form part of a wider development area which will ultimately include 771 new homes and a primary school. Around 700 homes are already occupied, with the remainder due to be finished and ready for occupation by this summer. Construction of the school has started and is planned to open by the start of the 2015/16 academic year in September.

Kavanaghs associate director Alison Williams said: “This is a great location for a local neighbourhood centre and will provide an excellent facility to service the newly-developed primary school and extensive nearby local housing developments.”
