The £34m regeneration project that will transform Keynsham town centre reached a key stage today with a topping-out ceremony to mark the highest point of its buildings.

The project, a partnership between Bath & North East Somerset Council and construction, and national property development group Willmott Dixon, is now around one year from completion.

The major redevelopment project will give Keynsham new shops, new and improved public space, a new library, an innovative ‘one-stop shop’ where residents will be able to access local services under one roof and sustainable, low-carbon office space for the council, replacing its accommodation at Riverside.

Representatives from Keynsham Town Council, the local Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Council, Willmott Dixon and ward councillors were at today’s ceremony when the last bolt connection was tightened on the highest part of the Civic Centre steelwork.

Cabinet member for community resources Cllr David Bellotti said: “Since we started in October 2012, Keynsham people can see great changes taking place in their town centre with exciting new facilities emerging, like a new library, new retail units, new one-stop shop of public services and community space. This milestone also represents the one-year countdown to completion of this environmentally friendly, energy efficient development.”

Willmott Dixon’s South West managing director Neal Stephens said: “We’re delighted with the building’s progress and that we have reached such a significant milestone within time and budget. Working as sustainably as possible is also a priority for us and so we’re proud to be working towards the government’s highly regarded DEC ‘A’ rating on this build.

“We have also looked at employing local contractors, suppliers and subcontractors where possible- allowing other local businesses to benefit from this significant regeneration project.”

The regeneration project is on-time and on-budget.
