The Arts Café at Bath comedy venue Komedia has been named as one of the UK’s top five vegan-friendly cultural venues.

The accolade has been made by PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), the UK-based charity dedicated to establishing and protecting the rights of all animals.

The cafe has a strong ethical approach, serving freshly-prepared, seasonal and locally-sourced food. Its menus were the first in Bath to attain the Soil Association Gold Standard, recognising that its meals are free from unwanted additives and based around local, seasonal produce from producers who operate to high farm standards.

Run in partnership with artists’ website Artolo, the café displays the work of local artists and also serves as a second smaller performance space for local musicians, comedian, and the spoken word performers.

It also hosts events geared towards children, including cookery classes and toddlers’ French lessons as well as Big Scream and Toddler Time film screenings in collaboration with Little@Komedia, for parents with babies and toddlers.

The Komedia Arts Cafe also recently came first in the ‘best breakfast category’ in the Bath Good Food Awards, and was highly commended in the Best Supporter of Local Produce category. Joining Komedia in Peta’s top five were the Watershed in Bristol, Chapter in Cardiff, QUAD in Derby, and the Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal.
