Latest success for fledgling firm on a mission to transform Bath’s unloved buildings

Bath-based property development firm Longacre is making the most of the city’s historic architecture and giving neglected buildings a new lease of life.

The firm has recently completed its latest scheme – a high-profile refurbishment of disused office and storage space in the city centre named One Bilbury Lane.

A dilapidated and redundant five-floor Grade I listed building has been transformed into six luxury apartments and an exclusive penthouse, each with a contemporary finish.

To complete the two-year project, Longacre had to overcome a difficult access arrangement and complex legal issues. It has created a discreet entrance worthy of a high-quality residential development.

Behind Longacre are owners Mark Tyrrell, a former director of student accommodation group Unite and property developer Deeley Freed Estates – both based in Bristol – and Julian Emery, who runs Bath-based family construction firm Emerys.

They have more than 50 years’ experience in the sector between them and are both highly respected within the industry.

Longacre is already gaining a reputation for completing high-end contemporary schemes which are sympathetic to their setting.

Its other Bath schemes include the renovation of a Grade II listed property, which created 19 flats, and the reconfiguration of two vacant council-owned terraced properties to create a collection of high-quality apartments.

The majority of the apartments at One Bilbury Lane sold before building work was complete.

Mark Tyrrell said: “These stylish apartments are a hidden jewel in the centre of Bath. We have been able to combine the old with the new, offering modern comfort but respecting the location of a World Heritage Site.

“This scheme is an example of what Longacre can do. We are able to unlock the more complicated developments and deliver something special.

“Julian and I are now keen to pursue new projects and nurture relationships with vendors or landowners wishing to sell or who might be interested in joint ventures.”

Julian added: “The purpose of Longacre is to bring together in one firm a good level of knowledge on all technical aspects and skills from the property development and construction sectors.

“We have now completed several schemes together in Bath and believe Longacre has started a good track record.”
