Bath-based web and graphic designer Craig Gill has swapped his Mac for trainers as he prepares to run next Sundays London Marathon for the first time.

Craig, pictured, who works at Bath PR agency Creatrix, is taking on the challenge in memory of his grandmother Audrey, who died earlier this year from cancer.

He will be raising funds for Cancer Research UK and has set himself a target of £2,000. He will join around 50,000 runners in what will be the 38th London Marathon and hopes to get around the course in four hours.

Craig was one of the four-strong Creatrix team that had planned to run the Bath Half last month. However, the race was shelved because of bad weather.

He said: “I was disappointed when the Bath Half didn’t go ahead but my attentions soon turned to the London Marathon and I’m looking forward to taking on the challenge.

“This is the first time I have run a marathon but I’m hopeful all the training will help me through the nerves and excitement of the day. I’ve put in the miles over the past few months, running in all weathers including snow, which I wasn’t expecting when I signed up.

“I’m really looking forward to the atmosphere on the day and that feeling of achievement when I cross the finish line. I’ll definitely be rewarding myself with a cold cider afterwards.”

Creatrix PR, whose high-profile clients include Bath Rugby, property developers Crest Nicholson and HPH and housing association Curo, celebrates its 18 anniversary this year.

The agency is a hotbed of athletic activity. Three of the four staff who trained for the Bath Half had already run at that distance while it would have been director Gary Squires’ 11th Bath Half.
