Bath Rugby owner Bruce Craig is to become executive chairman of the club he bought four years ago in a shake-up of its senior management that will also result in chief executive Nick Blofeld moving to a new job.

Multi-millionaire entrepreneur Mr Craig, previously non-executive chairman, is expected to play a more hands-on role at the club following the sweeping changes that will take effect from September 1, two weeks head of the start of the new Premiership season.

Mr Blofeld, chief executive since 2009, will take over responsibility for a number of key projects, including securing a long-term home for the club through the potential development of the Rec.

Supporting Mr Craig will be head coach Mike Ford and performance director David Thompson, who will manage all aspects of the rugby side of the business. Finance and strategy director Tarquin McDonald will assume responsibility for the day-to-day running of the non-rugby side of the business.

Mr Craig said: “I am very proud of the progress made by Bath Rugby under Nick’s direction over the last five years and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank him for all he has done for the club to date.

“In his new role he will continue to focus on a number of key projects, including the potential Rec redevelopment, the on-going development of Farleigh House and support for the Bath Rugby Foundation.

“I am very much looking forward to next season and I am confident that we will see all our hard work bear further fruit in the seasons ahead.”

Nick Blofeld added: “I have been privileged to lead a great club over these last few years and to set it in the right direction for long term success. I’m now looking forward to concentrating even more on trying to keep Bath Rugby at the Rec, as well as a few other key projects, and to being able to watch the team’s successes next year and beyond.”
