Independent high street pet store chain PamPurredPets has opened a branch at the Leekes store in Melksham.

The Dorset-based firm, founded in 1981, now has 45 outlets across the South, making it the largest independent group of its kind.

The 4,000 sq ft Melksham store, a £80,000 investment for the group, has created five jobs.

Group retail operations manager Karen Roy said: “We are delighted to open our first new store this year in Melksham, where customers can enjoy an immense range of good quality foods and accessories for a wide variety of domestic pets.”

PamPurredPets has stores in Warminster, Frome, Midsomer Norton and Shepton Mallet. The outlets stock traditional products for pets such as cats, dogs, birds and small mammals, but have experienced strong sales of coops as more people keep chickens in their gardens. The company also promotes the use of biodegradable dog poop bags.
