Mentors sought to support Bath Spa Uni graduates as jobs market gets tougher

Bath Spa University is calling on businesspeople based in the city to become mentors to its graduates as they begin to find it harder than ever to join the workforce.

The university has launched its scheme MentorMe following an 11% increase in the take up of mentoring since last year.

It is now recruiting mentors to support a new cohort of graduates, drawing on their experience, networks and insight to help bridge the gap between university and employment.

Mentoring coordinator Hannah Rudd said: “Our current bank of mentors say that it takes up less than an hour a month of their time and is a really rewarding scheme to be a part of.

“There are many reasons why becoming a mentor is a rewarding and beneficial experience and there is only one short training session to attend.”

The scheme has particular gaps in these sectors:

  • Business and management
  • Art and design
  • Graphic communication
  • Textile and interior design
  • Creative writing
  • Film, television and digital production
  • Journalism and publishing
  • Biology and environmental science
  • Criminology and forensic psychology
  • Sociology and psychology
  • Food with nutrition and human nutrition.
