BMT Group, the international design, engineering and risk management consultancy with a major presence in Bath, has merged two of its subsidiaries to strengthen its service to blue-chip customers.

The move brings together Bath-based BMT Cadence, which sells safety and environmental risk management services, and BMT Reliability Consultants, which focusses on reliability and supportability engineering, under the name BMT Asset Performance.

BMT Cadence, which works with the MoD and major defence contractors such as Ultra Electronics, General Dynamics and Meggitt Avionics on projects such as the Challenger 2 tank and Queen Elizabeth Class aircraft carrer, pictured right and below, was previously known as BMT Isis until the parent group renamed it as a result of “sensitivities” around the use of a word now linked to the Islamic State jihadist militant group.

The new BMT Asset Performance subsidiary employs nearly 100 engineers, analysts and consultants across its sites in Bath, Weymouth, Plymouth and Fareham, Hampshire working on projects in the defence, energy and transport sectors.

BMT Asset Performance managing director Mike Prince said: “We have recognised for some time now that there are real synergies between the two organisations.

Staff have been increasingly working together to support our clients’ capital engineering projects and we have delivered real innovation into the market as a result, so the decision to merge feels exactly like a clear, natural progression for us to make.

He said the new name deliberately sought to reflect the fact that the new company used its knowledge to help clients achieve an optimum and assured performance from the full spectrum of their assets.

“To help our clients identify the best pathway to success, it’s important to take a very broad view of what their assets are and while we use our skills to address the complex engineering, we also unlock organisation’s hidden assets such as its data, processes and innovations,” he said.

“We help our client’s spot and exploit real day-to-day opportunities to achieve more with less, to increase their competitiveness and to plan ahead with confidence.”

The BMT Group is an international design, engineering and risk management consultancy working principally in the defence, energy and environment, marine risk and insurance, maritime transport and ports and logistics sectors.
