Regional accountancy group MHA Monahans, which has offices in and around Bath, has landed its second major award in a month as its growth over recent years continues to gain industry recognition.

Success in the Large Firm of the Year category of the inaugural IRIS Customer Awards followed hot on the heels of MHA Monahans winning the Practice Growth Firm of the Year title at the Accounting Excellence Awards just a few weeks earlier.

The IRIS Customer Awards were launched to celebrate IRIS Accountancy Solutions’ 40th anniversary. They celebrate best practice and recognise individuals and accountancy practices thriving in the digital economy.

The awards were open to all of IRIS’ customers across the country, ranging from small business owners and payroll technicians to chartered firms operating nationally.

The judging criteria in the Large Firm of the Year category, which was open to accountancy firms with nine or more partners, looked at several areas of the business and reviewed how entrants evolved beyond compliance services to capitalise on new service opportunities in the digital economy.

The judges said: “MHA Monahans displayed a real focus on staff with 33 trainees who are working towards professional qualification. Growth has been strong for this firm, supported by bringing in a specialist partner to drive growth from existing clients.”

MHA Monahan partner Steve Fraser said: “Over the past few years, MHA Monahans has been focussed on growth and developing the services we offer to our clients in order to add value and concrete our role as trusted business advisors.

“We have worked with IRIS for a number of years and their software has been an integral part to us providing reliable and smooth services. To have won this award hot on the heels of our Practice Growth title is great recognition of the extra lengths we go to be more than just accountants to our clients.”

MHA Monahans has expanded its services and geographic spread over the past three years through a combination of acquisitions and organic growth. It now has offices in Bath, Trowbridge, Chippenham, Melksham, Frome, Glastonbury, Swindon and Taunton, employing 16 partners and 190 staff.

Turnover has increased by 20% over the period while it has also moved further into the Somerset market following the acquisition 20 months ago of long-established Taunton firm BJ DixonWalsh.

MHA Monahans was also recently shortlisted in the Mid-Tier Firm of the Year (£10m-£25m) category of the British Accountancy Awards.
