Bath area business owners considering selling their companies can get expert advice at a free conference staged by West accountants Monahans later this month.

The morning event, at Homewood Park Hotel on November 26, is open to anyone planning to sell their business in the future or would like to understand the process involved.

Topics covered will include:

  • How to value your business and how to increase its value. Peter Lugg, who heads Monahans’ corporate finance service and has nearly 20 years’ experience of buying and selling family businesses, will discuss how to value a business and what to do to increase this value.
  • How to minimise tax when buying or selling a business, Dominic Bourquin, who leads Monahans’ tax consultancy team and has extensive experience gained from some of the biggest names in the accountancy industry, will explain tax issues associated with selling a business to ensure the seller can keep as much money as possible.
  • A members’ Voluntary Liquidation as an alternative exit route. Steve Elliott,  head of the firm’s business recovery team and is licenced insolvency practitioner with more than 25 years of hands-on experience, will cover the formalities of exiting through a solvent winding-up and discuss how effective planning can maximise the return for shareholders
  • Getting the right deal structure for maximum return. Mr Lugg will look at ways to increase proceeds from a sale and the risks and possible advantages involved.

Attendees will also have a chance to quiz the team of specialists at Monahans, which has offices in Bath, Swindon, Chippenham, Trowbridge and Glastonbury.

Mr Lugg said: “When we have run these seminars in the past, there has been a lively and interesting discussion from what has proved to be a very mixed audience of those thinking of selling their business both in the near and medium term.”

Doors open for the event at 8:30am with the seminar between 9am and 11:30am.
