Monahans, the South West’s largest independent accountancy firm, has appointed its second new director in three months as it continues with what its managing partner has called the most exciting period in its history.

Alice Elsmore, pictured, has joined Monahans, which has eight offices across the region including in Bath, from national accountancy firm RSM in Bristol, where she was an associate director.

Prior to that she worked in the Bath office of regional firm Bishop Fleming as a manager for nearly seven years.

In both these roles Alice managed a mixed portfolio, leading projects to develop an outsourced finance function within a plethora of industries including construction, healthcare and aerospace, while holding a leading role in VAT compliance and advisory work.

Monahans managing partner Simon Tombs said: “Alice joins Monahans at arguably the firm’s most exciting period in its 120-plus year history.

“We have a number of opportunities in the pipeline that will accelerate our growth and Alice’s role will make her integral to that growth and the high-quality work being offered to clients.”

At Monahans Alice will focus on working with owner-manged businesses, helping them navigate the world of accounting and tax compliance and using her drive, experience and expertise to help them achieve their business objectives and goals.

In addition to her daily accountancy role, voluntary work is a real passion for Alice. She is a board advisor for The Women’s Work Lab, a Bristol and Bath-based not-for-profit organisation, supporting unemployed women via training and work experience with local employers and mentors them through interview processes to secure great roles.

The women involved have often experienced challenges in their lives such as domestic abuse or having children with additional needs and The Women’s Work Lab gives them the means to re-enter the workplace.

Alice’s passion to help other women stems from her decision to switch careers to become an accountant after working in hospitality.

She will be based in Monahans’ Bath and Trowbridge offices, working alongside Becky Young who was appointed a director earlier this year.

Alice said: “I am excited to get stuck into the role and be a driving force in shaping the future of the business.

“I particularly admire Monahans’ progressive work towards diversity and inclusion in the workplace and the benefits such policies can bring, not just to the individuals involved, but the teams and organisations around them.

“Diverse teams not only help companies achieve great results, but they create a positive company culture which is extremely important.”

Monahans, whose services span corporate finance, tax consultancy, audit and payroll, also has offices in Chippenham, Frome, Glastonbury, Melksham, Swindon and Taunton.
