Innovative automotive firm Carbon One has relocated to larger premises as it continues to expand and develop pioneering new products.

The firm, which is developing carbon composite wheels, beat off competition to take the lease for a unit on the Leafield Industrial Estate in Corsham.

The 20,350 sq ft building, pictured below, has recently been refurbished by its owner, Bath-based commercial property firm HPH.

Carbon One was founded four years ago by automotive industry veteran Chris Marsh and inventor Bevis Musk, who previously worked for Chippenham-based performance wheels firm Dymag.

Carbon One, which was previously based near Dyrham, is developing carbon fibre wheels for the automotive, aerospace and military vehicle industries. Its products are as strong as traditional wheels but are much lighter – offering huge benefits for car and aircraft manufacturers.

Two years ago the firm received nearly £100,000 from a regional growth fund to spur research and development of new products.

HPH managing director Lindsay Holdoway said: “We had strong demand for this unit but we are glad that a local innovative company such as Carbon One has joined the mix of diverse businesses already at Leafield Industrial Estate.

“The demand for this unit illustrates the shortage of suitable industrial units in the area, which is forcing some businesses to look elsewhere.”

He said it was vital companies involved in technical innovation in the engineering and manufacturing sector had access to the right buildings to enable them to grow.
