New Bath office for Stone King as it looks for further growth in the city

Law firm Stone King is to open a new Bath base to accommodate ongoing growth and bring together partners and staff working from two of its three offices in the city.

Most of the firm’s 150-plus Bath-based employees and partners will move into the 8,500 sq ft office on the second floor of Upper Borough Court on Upper Borough Walls, pictured, next month.

Stone King’s main reception area for clients and client meeting rooms will remain at its offices at 12 and 13 Queen Square, where it has been based since 1832 – not long after it was the home of Jane Austen.

The newly refurbished premises, which are above the Anthropologie store, will primarily bring together staff now based at its offices at 18 Queen Square and Beauford House, Princes Street, into one office with space for expansion.

Stone King, which also has offices in London, Cambridge, Leeds and Birmingham, said its Bath employees will benefit from better facilities in a central location which are just four minutes’ walk from its historic Queen Square HQ.

The firm is recognised as a national leader in providing legal advice to the education and charity & social enterprise sectors. It also advises businesses and private clients.

It currently holds both the Law Society’s Lexcel and Investors in People Gold accreditation and has been independently recognised as a leading firm by both industry ‘bibles’, Chambers and the Legal 500. Bath is the largest of its five offices.

Managing partner Steven Greenwood said: “This move is a very positive way for us to begin the new year. Ten years ago Stone King had 126 people nationwide, we now have more than 150 in Bath alone, with further expansion in the pipeline.

“Moving under one roof into an open plan environment will support our ethos of working together as one firm, rather than in the different sectors we cover.

“Coinciding with this move we are also developing our smart working practices, which will give our people more flexibility and support them in keeping a healthy work-life balance. This will greatly benefit Stone King by helping recruitment and productivity.”

Stone King employs more than 240 people across its five offices.
