An internationally-renowned vocal jazz group from Oxford University is heading to this month’s Edinburgh Fringe festival, thanks to the support of Bath online publisher SelectScience.

The Corston-based firm, which works with scientists across the world, stepped in with a donation to the tune of £1,000 to help The Oxford Gargoyles, pictured, return for their 12th consecutive season at the globally-acknowledge festival.

The group describes itself as offering a “stellar mix of black-tie charm, slick wit and even slicker musicality”. It was a finalist in BBC’s Choir Of The Year in 2012 and 2014 and has recently toured Hong Kong, Macau and the US.

It needed to raise £6,000 to fund its two-week residency in Edinburgh, which starts tomorrow.

SelectScience founder and CEO Arif Butt, pictured below, said: “When it comes to science and the arts, there is more in common than people might think – for they each have innovation, progress and creativity at their very heart.

“We have the utmost respect for The Oxford Gargoyles, who share our passion for perfection, and so we were delighted to help them on their mission to perform at this summer’s Edinburgh Fringe. The audience will be in for a real treat.”

President of the Oxford Gargoyles, Olivia Hugh-Jones, thanked SelectScience for the donation.

“SelectScience’s generous donation has facilitated The Oxford Gargoyles’ fortnight at the Fringe,” she said.

“We were already aware of this global science publisher, and are honoured to witness first-hand collaboration between science and the arts, a relationship which we hope will extend beyond the group and beyond Oxford.”

SelectScience is projecting growth of 30% this year on the back of 25% expansion in 2016.

The firm provides vital information for scientists around the world, enabling them to better communicate about scientific products and help accelerate critical research globally. It is also a trusted online resource on Google.
