Pensions overhaul on the menu at Fidelius breakfast

Bath employee benefits specialist Fidelius is holding a free breakfast seminar to explain the implications of the impending overhaul of UK pensions.

Fidelius’ co-founder and employee benefits director Iain Fox will discuss the change to auto-enrolment – which requires firms to put eligible employees in a suitable workplace pension scheme. The seminar, which is being backed by Bath Business News as media partner, takes place on Thursday September 27

Auto-enrolment comes into effect on October 1 and will initially apply only to the UK’s largest companies – those employing 120,000 or more people. But all companies will be phased into the new pensions regime over the next five years.

All workers earning more than £8,105 a year and who are at least 22 years old but below State pension age will be automatically enrolled into an eligible scheme. Employers will be required to make minimum contributions, unless a staff member opts out within a month of the scheme starting.

Iain said: “Auto-enrolment has been introduced by the Government in an effort to ensure that people save adequately for their retirement. The seminar will explain the impact to businesses, describe what their obligations are, and give details on how firms can best plan for it. The free session will also give local business people a chance to chat and network over a bacon roll and a cup of coffee.”

The seminar will take place from 8am-9.30am at the Illustrious Suite in the IPL Stand at The Recreation Ground, Bath.

Fidelius was founded by Iain Fox and Alan Phillips in 1999 and today employs 80 people in Bath, Cheltenham, Exeter and London.
