Bath PR agency Creatrix’s founding director Gary Squires has qualified to represent GB Triathlon in the European Championships on Ibiza after two years of gruelling training.

Gary will compete in the 2018 Ibiza ETU Middle Distance Triathlon European Championships as part of the 45-49 age group. He will line up alongside 2,000 other competitors tomorrow in the final race of the season, which includes a 1.2-mile sea swim followed by a 56-mile bike ride and finishing with a half-marathon.

The event is the culmination of two years of hard work in the discipline for Gary. To prepare for the triathlon he has run more than 10,000km in training in the past year alone – further than the distance from Bath to Tokyo – as well as competing in races in Austria, Sweden, Denmark and Wales.

Former rugby player Gary took up triathlons to stay active after retiring from the game.

He is now part of the South West triathlon race team Zoot Athlos, which is coached by Bath-based Paul Ransom of Urban Endurance.

Gary said: “I am really looking forward to this prestigious event after two years of hard-work, training and racing. To wear the colours of GB Triathlon in this international event is a great honour and I am hoping to put in a strong performance.

“I am sure that afterwards I will enjoy a well-earned break and rest from training and look forward to the 2019 season.”

Gary set up Creatrix PR in 2000 to offer a wide range of services including PR and marketing, community consultation and political engagement, as well as web and print design. The agency has worked with a large number of clients and projects in Bath and across the wider region including Bath Rugby, Crest Nicholson, HPH and Bath City FC.
