Monahans, the west accountancy firm with offices in Bath, Chippenham, Glastonbury and Trowbridge, has promoted Shelly Smith to senior manager in its business recovery and insolvency team.

Shelly, pictured, who has more than 18 years’ experience, started her career with Solomon Hare in Bristol before moving on to manage the insolvency team at Robson Taylor in Bath. She then qualified as an insolvency practitioner and joined KPMG as a manager.

Shelly moved to Monahans in 2010 as she was keen for the direct client contact and variety that an independent firm brings.

She has extensive experience in corporate insolvency with specific experience in the small-to-medium enterprise market, working across a range of sectors including property, hotels, retail and internet businesses.

Monahans business recovery and insolvency partner Steve Elliott said: “There has been demand for our services from companies across the South West as the region continues to face tough economic conditions.

“With her strong track record of advising businesses in distress, we believe Shelly will be key to building our profile across the region, and ensuring that companies are aware that there are experienced professionals locally to whom they can turn.”

Monahans is one of the largest independent chartered accountancy groups in the West of England. It has 16 partners and employs 120 people at its offices, which include Swindon as well as Bath, Chippenham, Glastonbury and Trowbridge.
