Bath-based residential property developer Kersfield has started work on eight new properties at Walcot Yard in the heart of the city’s artisan district - the latest in a string of schemes across the city by the firm.

Previously home to a reclamation yard specialising in building materials and architectural salvage, the development will consist of eight three-bedroom houses, all with underground parking.

Designed by Bath architectural practice The Nash Partnership, the new properties will help transform the area off Walcot Road into an attractive gated development. Completion is expected early next spring.

Kersfield chief executive David Newton said: “We have been mindful throughout the planning and design process to reflect the character of the area as much possible, while creating beautifully finished properties.  Owing to the location and specification, we expect to see high demand from the local market including downsizers.

“The houses will be built in an artisan style and as with all Kersfield properties, they will benefit from high quality finishes throughout. Residents will enjoy the best of both worlds with the community feel of Walcot Street on their doorstep and Bath city centre a short walk away.

Kersfield is currently working on a number of other schemes in Bath, including the first phase of development of a prime four-acre former MoD site in Lansdown with 26 four and five-bedroom houses and nine large apartments, the former Hope Chapel, which is being converted into eight apartments, a house and a ground floor retail/restaurant space, four large apartments at Beckford Gate, also in Lansdown, and 4-5 Westgate Buildings in the city centre, a conversion of an office block into 17 apartments.

The firm has also been active in Bristol, where it has converted Burwalls House Estate next to the Clifton Suspension Bridge, into five beautifully-appointed apartments and built a further six houses in the stable block and ancillary buildings.

As reported by Bath Business News last week, Bristol-based Urban regeneration specialist Helm Construction is the main contractor at Walcot Yard, with Knight Frank and Savills in Bath appointed joint agents.
