Lightweight steel roofing company Metrotile UK has appointed David Padmore as regional manager for the North of England.

David Padmore, pictured, who has worked in the roofing industry for 32 years, will be responsible for developing business opportunities for the Chippenham-based firm in an area north of Stoke and the Humber and to Scottish border.

He will have a particular focus ondeveloping the specification market as well as forging relationships with roofing contractors, local authorities, architects and merchants.

His experience includes roles with major manufacturers and he has also set up new a UK business on behalf of a German firm.

He said: “I have already enjoyed forming relationships with the personnel at Metrotile UK and the company has a relaxed yet highly professional approach which I think I am going to enjoy.

“The product is excellent, the brand and reputation is out there and it is now a matter of getting to meet the people responsible for specifying roofing solutions for major projects.

“There is also great potential to develop sales of our lightweight roofing system in domestic leisure buildings and continue the growth Metrotile has enjoyed over the past few years.”

Metrotile UK has grown by 30% over the past two years and now turns over £7.1m. Growth has largely come from new markets, as homeowners, architects, specifiers and contractors begin to demand more sustainable products.

The company, based on Chippenham's Sheldon Business Park, sells lightweight steel roofing solutions which are made in a state-of-the-art factory in Belgium and are 100% recyclable.

Weighing approximately 15% of the weight of the more traditional alternatives such as clay and concrete, the products are also much cheaper to transport and also come with a 40-year guarantee.

Metrotile UK also recently appointed Glenn Everest to lead the company’s extensive training operations.

Metrotile UK managing director John Cunningham said: “This is the second full-time appointment we have made in as many months and it demonstrates the realisation of the potential our company has to enjoy continued growth.

“David comes highly qualified and with great experience and we are pleased to have appointed him. I am sure he will represent us in the North of England extremely well and make the most of the opportunities there.

“Lightweight steel roofing is on the cusp of something spectacular, as it begins to break into the mainstream against the traditional roofing solutions of clay, concrete and slate and its many benefits become more widely appreciated.”
