Bath Spa University’s Locksbrook Campus is in line to do the treble in regional property awards after being shortlisted for two more accolades.

The former furniture factory, pictured, now a multi million-pound, state-of-the-art campus for the university’s art and design students, is in the running in two categories of the 2020 Michelmores Property Awards.

The awards, staged by regional law firm Michelmores and now in their 18th year, recognise the best South West property and construction schemes, as well as the teams involved in them.

The shortlisting – in the education project of the year and heritage project of the year categories – comes shortly after Locksbrook Campus was named among 13 projects in contention for this year’s RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) South West Awards.

The awards recognise buildings across the region that have made a significant contribution to architecture – with the winner considered for a highly-coveted RIBA National Award in recognition of its architectural excellence.

Locksbrook Campus was originally designed in 1976 by renowned British architect Sir Nicholas Grimshaw for US furniture manufacturer Herman Miller. After acquiring the Grade-II listed building, Bath Spa University worked with Sir Nicholas’s global design practice Grimshaw to create world-class educational facilities, including flexible studio spaces, workshops and open areas designed to foster creativity and collaborative working.

The campus is going head-to-head against three other contenders in each category of the Michelmores Property Awards.

Michelmores partner and head of its real estate team Emma Honey said: “The South West is undergoing rapid transformation with strategic commercial and residential development taking place throughout the region, alongside exceptional restoration projects and smaller scale residential developments of note.

“This year’s shortlist reflects the exceptional quality of the development that has taken place over the last year.”

Michelmores, which has offices in Bristol, Exeter and London, will announce the winners at a virtual event on November 12. Details of the South West RIBA awards ceremony have not yet been released.
